Maritza Ebanks: No one answer! ed my question. I don't KNOW what feed dogs are. Actually I managed ver! y well. I just took the foot off and the needle out every time I had to get the material in or out. There was a fatter part around the edges that I couldn't get under the needle at all but there was a somewhat thinnner part in the middle. I was able to sew a big border around it inside the fat bits and then sew two additional bands across the quilt. It's an eiderdown rather than a quilt. It worked out quite well. It as a bit of a pain taking the needle out and the foot off each time but not too bad and well worth the effort. It was also very heavy and I had to lift it as I was sewing so as not to put too much strain on the machine. I had to pull the eiderdown back to help it to move. Thought I might break the needle but I didn't. I put in a new needle before I started. To take the foot and the thing the holds the foot OFF, before I started (which I tried) I think that's what disengag...Show more

Sol Bayn: My hobby as an oil painter turned into a business.I collect Fiesta Ware for resale, but I love the stuff so much that I can't part with any of it.I collect antique furniture.
Raymundo Kyser: Depends on how thick it is and how high your presser foot goes. The fatter the quilt, the more it's likely to shift during sewing, even if you can get it under a presser foot. Many of the fat batts are intended for tied comforters, not for quilting. As for dropping the feed dogs, not all machines have that capability -- it's used for free motion quilting and embroidery -- but if you want to do FMQ on a machine that lacks that feature, you can set the stitch length to 0and tape over the feed dogs. If you're doing linear quilting, you'll want the feed dogs up, most likely.Typically for FMQ, a darning foot is used. Doesn't lift any higher, it just allows you to move the quilt in any direction....Show more
Marvel Mcaulay: I am thinking it! s a year 1984 stockman.
Emery Blando: fat quarters are pre cut squares used for quilts.Have you every free sewn before? Dropping the feed dogs and moving the fabric yourself is a very tricky thing to do. It takes a LOT of practice. I would practice on a single piece of fabric with some stiff interfacing first. And do free sew with a huge peice of quilted fabric is not for beginners....Show more
Elissa Curlin: I love playing the piano, cooking, crocheting, reading, and knitting. I prefer hobbies that I can do alone. As a mother and a wife alone time is hard to come by so I love spending it doing something I love.
Azalee Ahrendes: I have found that if there is a lot of material to be sewn and i can barely get it under the needle I have been able to sew it by turning the wheel of the machine by hand. There is a drawback with this and that is you may not be able to move the material any further. Since it is thick have you considered marking the quilt at c! ertain intervals and tie it? That may be the only alternative you may! have.
Damion Oleksa: I mean a THICK quilt. I read something on here about fat quarters for quilts and I don't know what that means either. Anyone????
