car help muscle cars slow compared?

Dexter Gold: the fastest cars in the world are built for highways and top speeds, F&F I,II, III are drag race sprinters with a top speed of about 140 MPH and cost about $11,000 tops new, a supercar is about $150,000 + and hits 215MPH. a ZO6 corvette does about 195, so I hear.

Jinny Dronen: A lot of the slower acceleration numbers than you'd expect from muscle cars are due to old tire design (small/narrow tires) of the time. Most muscle cars were grossly under-tired by modern standards. Not only were the tires significantly narrower than you'd want for a high horsepower car, but the compounds and construction of the older tires is vastly inferior to modern tires too. If you look at muscle car 0-60 times from back when they were new, you'd be disappointed when comparing them to modern cars, but then you look at their 1/4 mile times (and more importantly their trap speeds) and you see that they're significantly faster through a 1/4 mile than you'd expect them to be for! something that ran the 0-60 time they ran. That tells me that the tires on the old muscle cars spun wildly (or the cars had to be launched slowly to avoid massive wheelspin) off the line. I'm sure that if you took old muscle cars and put brand new radials on them consistent in size and composition with what other modern cars of the similar size/weight are currently using, the muscle cars would put up significantly more impressive acceleration times, especially at lower speeds like 0-60. As for the top-speed being lower in most muscle cars, that's due mostly to gearing fwiw - they have less total gears (normally 4 at most) and they were geared to go near their top speed through a 1/4 mile drag race. Fuel economy wasn't a concern so taller cruising gears (which also allow higher top speeds) weren't really part of the deal in most old muscle cars....Show more

Augustus Sarria: Yer mate like the other guy said its a movie, HOWEVER it if very possible to get a 10second Sky! line, supra or rx7, it just takes cash, and the cars would be ! very unstreetable (Not practical to drive on the street) especially with all the weight of subs etc in the cars in movies. Also the cars on this list are 100's of thousands of dollars..Import cars have stereo's etc.. At least half of the cars on this list would not have stereo's, air con etc.. for weight saving, even though 90% of them would never see the track.. Also because these cars are so wide, they would have Crap handling..Import cars also have great aftermarket support..muscle cars are impractical today because they very heavy, because of this they need a larger engine, which usually means they are fuel guzzlers.. but when you see the odd charger that is stripped of everything except the basics, they can produce huge power and fast times"Oh and i've never seen a 10 second run on road tyres either"Mate you have had your eyes shut all your life. there is plenty of them out there...Show more

Randa Hessell: It is not the cars often but the engines which produce the! power mixed with what the cars have to offer in other features like transmission and handling.imports and Muscle cars and fast and more often tit for tat.Where i live there are a mass of imports and it is not strange to see high bhp Japanese cars on the drag strip ,and even running around towns my friend drives a 800bhp skyline to work and tunes it as a hobby on the road side outside his house.Imports offer great tuning abilities due to have often detuned engines due to limits and high taxes and fuel cost to which the cars are sold to,IE the Skyline GTR in Japan on paper is 276bhp but dyno stock ones run at 330bhp and that is detuned with 600bhp on stock internals shows what this car is made to do stock and with further mods can reach well over 1000bhp just one of many tuner cars, and credit due to all tuners cars to get such high bhp figures from such small engines. So if it is a American Muscle car to a Japanese tuner car to a Ferrari etc there are many cars and engines wi! th great potential. As for the films American Muscle cars fans wanted to! see more American cars in the new faf film and fair play to them but as with other faf films bits like adding the rb26dett engine to the Mustang caused trouble with fans and this time i believe the comment about Muscle always wins to imports is another issue which has caused it new problems and again people refusing to watch that particular film....Show more

Refugio Gastineau: It's a 'Film', made up, not real, a story, a fabricated series of fictional events. Dear dear dear. Yes you can get a car to do 10 second quarter miles if you have loads of cash. Try driving that car on the road though and you'll probably kill yourself in the first bit of rain. Oh and i've never seen a 10 second run on road tyres either. Ask any other drag racer.
