Willis Liburd: Well...I'm 20 and I just started my junior year as a sociology student at Berkeley. I am for helping the environment, as a Seventh Day Adventist I was raised with a strong belief that we should take care of all God's creations. As for global warming, I believe the earth is warming, but I take the AGW theory in much the same way I take evolution (I can feel the thumbs-down coming now) in that I learn about it as a scientific theory but at the end of the day I'm not going to say it's the truth because no one knows for certain if it is. And I gave up on privacy when I began my latest relationship. Pre-teens with camera phones intruding on your dates tends to do that....Show more
Brian Freedland: I am 19 and currently in college. i also work at a grocery where its a good place for people who like to be eco-friendly to be employed and shopping in. its refreshing to be around people who are aware and optimistic when it comes to saving the earth. I am for! helping the environment and encourage those to as well for showing them the benefits of being eco-friendly. I do believe global warming is real and that we should all pitch in to hel but i would not go as far as buying carbon credits as i feel (in my opinion) they are a scam and a poor way of buying our way out a problem. I like to watch TV especially South Park (hence the name SouthParkRocks). How about you tell us your story as well Joe?...Show more
Georgia Dees: I am 45 and I have been an environmentalist for at least 35 years. My first attempts were to curb spraying of pesticides in my neighborhood at age 10. My latest efforts are against CFL's(nasty, nasty things...in so many ways!) I eat a low meat diet, try to get my needs locally, grow a nice garden, and pay attention to issues. I am very focused on the difference between "green" and "sustainable" and if I see another internet ad for "Drinking glasses made from recycled wine bottles....4/$24.99 plus s/h" I a! m gonna ralph(on my compost pile hopefully!)If America thinks ! that CFL's, rechargeable batteries and solar panels are really green then we are doomed for sure!...Show more
Ira Porietis: My basic background is available in my profile. Looks like we've got 3 Cal people in here.I've been interested in the environment for about 10 years. In high school my Government teacher gave us a packet with a summary of the US political parties, which convinced me that I should join the Green Party. I studied a bit of environmental science in college, but was more interested in astrophysics. After grad school I returned to environmental science, partially because it interested me and partially because that's where jobs were available (hard to find a job with a Master's in physics!), but I'm glad I did, because I like my job as an environmental scientist.I was concerned about global warming prior to watching 'An Inconvenient Truth', but the film motivated me to research the issue further. After reading many papers, books, and articles on th! e issue, I feel that I'm pretty well informed about it, and very concerned. I live my life as green as possible, biking to work, minimizing my home energy consumption, and I bought a Prius as soon as I could afford one. I've also done a lot of research on alternative fueled vehicles, and have become the top answerer in that category :-)...Show more
Brittney Inabnit: I'm 52, and my degree was in communications but I didn't really pick a career until I trained as a naturalist at Upper Newport Bay in 1990. That turned my life around, and I began to groom myself for a paid position by doing everything I could, including serving as committee chair and on the board. It finally paid off, and I'm working as a naturalist developing programs, leading hikes, working with Eagle Scouts and lately running a land steward program. This prompted me to go back to school for an ecological restoration certificate. I'm short 2 classes because the school got crazy, but I learned enou! gh to know how much I don't know. I still volunteer -- coastal cleanup! day is coming up, my 17th or 18th -- and I still love it because of all the people I meet.I love learning, and I love educating people. Lately I've been gearing up to teach my 2 1/2 year old grandson about all the things grandma loves. There's a lot! I like birding, native plants, insects, particularly butterflies, dragonflies and damselflies, predators, Native American history and lore, and water quality, to name a few.I've enjoyed "getting to know" some of the regulars, most of whom seem like really good folk. Hang in there with the Michigan weather -- I'm from the Milwaukee area originally but have been in California most of my life. I fell deeply in love with the high Sierras about 12 years ago, and go backpacking whenever I can. Hopefully when I go at the end of the month it won't be snowing yet ......Show more
Leisa Brodnex: I design machines that measure CO, CO2, hydrocarbons, NOx, O2, and black carbon. They are used to tune small engines, large engines! , and are used in the food packaging/transport industry. I have used these machines to collect samples in the Russian Arctic using modified Antinov An-26 aircraft. I have degrees in physics from UCB. I also have 5 patents. I am currently employed as a senior design engineer.I construct stone circles, enjoy & collect books, cook, war game with miniatures, enjoy mountain biking, build bikes, restore old relics, and work to keep the atmosphere clean. b...Show more
Lindsey Zanardi: Well since you asked...I'm 22, currently in college (still, I know...) getting a double major in Environmental Studies and Communication with minors in Psychology and Social Work. I live in South West Michigan so the weather is almost always miserable. Currently taking a break from working, which I have done concurrently with school for years, to more seriously pursue academics with the hope of quickly finishing. Living green has been a huge help in lowering bills to make this a possibili! ty.Anything you see me suggesting in any of my questions or answers is ! stuff I am allready doing with the exception of alternative fueled vehicles, because I don't have the cash for the upgrade....Show more
