"If i WERE you" please helllp (words and wordplay)?

Ardelia Liptow: This is called the "subjunctive." You use "were" in this context to indicate that it is a mere hypothetical possibility.http://www.englishclub.com/grammar/verbs-subjuncti...

Mohamed Szollosi: In this sentence, you are supposing a hypothetical situation - clearly, I am not you, and never can be, so this is not a real possibility. Therefore you use the subjunctive mood, which uses the form "If I were . . .", to show that it is not a real situation. You always use this form when talking about something which is just wishful thinking : "If I were a genius, I would have made a million dollars" tells the listener that you are not a genius, and you have not made a million dollars....Show more
